that is a shot timer, its user in shooting competitions like uspsa and 3 gun. It's used to time how long it takes for someone to complete a stage and I believe it both times from the beep to the last shot as well as the time between shots. I see them get used a lot at the range I currently work at during our weekly steel matches.

I might be wrong on this, but I believe it is a competitive shooting match where targets made of thick steel are used instead of paper targets. They create a distinctive loud 'ding' when hit with a bullet as well as a significant mark on the target, allowing for audible and visual confirmation of a hit.

There are a few caveats with using them, such as making sure to not shoot them from close range due to the risk of getting hit by spalling or fragments, or certain bullets that can heavily damage or punch holes through the steel plates(usually higher powered rifles or bullets designed specifically for barrier or armor penetration).

LOL! I do need to! It's worse when there is a stage done with a "in no particular order needed to engage the targets". She kind of just does what she wants. Haha!
