(COMMISSION) Cartoon Horror Character Designs
A character design commission for my friend Alec Foisy on Bluesky hobbestiger.bsky.social :D These character designs are from a cartoony horror story concept - there's multiple books that characters are able to exit and enter at will, and they can travel to new books and end up in new settings - like Welcome Home and Amazing Digital Circus a common recurring theme is the existential horror of learning your world isn't real and breaking down because of that😨
From left to right, we have, Hilary the Lamb, Ody the Lemur, Koko the Stuffed Tanuki and Sparklehorn the Unicorn- more info about them is below:
- Hillary the Lamb, a side character from a cutesy barnyard-themed book. She's cute and playful in public, but her true self is a bratty short-tempered misanthrope who has a more perverted adult side to her (my friend took inspiration from Nifty for some parts of her character XD) She has attempted to murder her co-stars with weapons such as guns multiple times, and she leaves her book because she's tired of having to act cute and innocent all the time.
- Ody the Lemur - his origins are unknown, but he regularly travels between each book and tempts anyone he meets into leaving their home behind. Very dapper, optimistic and charismatic, he's also an otherworldly being with significant magic powers who runs on bizarre, unconventional and alien morality. He isn't malicious, but his trickster antics cause a lot of trouble anyway, making him basically some sort of fae entity in the form of an inkblot cartoon lemur.
- Koko the Stuffed Tanuki, an inanimate live-action stuffed toy belonging to a human girl in the story, but gained sentience upon turning animated. Despite being still physically a stuffed toy, she is in complete denial and insists she's always been a real flesh-and-blood being, even though she's shown doing things like rotating her head 360 degrees, and sometimes her body will rip open and stuffing will come out, like Winnie the Pooh. She's very innocent, dopy, and naive in personality.
- Sparklehorn the Unicorn (or Spark for short) is part of a toy line aimed at young girls similar to Barbie or Disney Princess, and the toy line focuses primarily on magical stuff like dreams and wishes coming true. However, Spark is actually a selfish sociopathic narcissist who is one of the villains of this story, and is lustful to the point of being a yandere. She doesn't speak regularly, but she transmits her speech telepathically with the help of her horn. My friend asked me to make her uncomfortably sexualized to the point of fan disservice, and you'll find yourself wondering how this character was marketed to little girls - I drew inspiration from the horrific design for the female characters from that infamous Disney short Inner Workings and real toys, the disgusting poopy unicorn toys, Bratz babys and more. D8 Upon seeing my concept sketch in the WIP I sent, my friend had a new idea that maybe she starts out with regular proportions (she'd still be curvy, but not unrealistically so), but she gets ahold of Ody's magic somehow to make herself look sexier, which alters her appearance into the grotesque thing I drew 😨
It was a lot of fun to work on designing all these and I got a lot of my creative juices flowing here. :D
