While it's not one of the larger predators on Skull Island, killer chameleons make up for it by hunting in packs. A similar lifestyle has also been adapted by death jackals, a species the killer chameleons fiercely compete with. Usually, they separate themselves by death jackals roaming the flatlands while killer chameleons inhabit mountainous areas, but if two packs meet, their fight often results in mutual annihilation. An arboreal ambush predator evolving into an active pack hunter has resulted in some interesting tactics: killer chameleons will sneak up on prey camouflaged and giving each other visual cues by subtle colour shifts and their preferred method of bringing down prey is by several individuals grabbing it by the legs with their tongues while others move in for the kill. The species shares a blue blood colouration with leafwings, caused by the same genetic introduction from plants that allows them to synthesize anthocyanes; it is unclear whether the trait had been transferred twice independently or between leafwings and killer chameleons in either direction. They also share a heightened metabolism with skullcrawlers, albeit it's not as extreme. Possibly, their smaller size had tempered it fairly quickly, since attacking too large animals weeded out the most aggressive individuals from the population.
