Speculative Skull Island Bullshit: Vine snake
While a lot of arboreal snakes mimic the appearance of vines, Skull Island's vine snakes take it a step further through a relationship with a species-specific tick that is both parasitism and mutualism. On one hand, leaf ticks are blood feeders and disease vectors, on the other hand, their leaf-like appearance enhances the vine snake's camouflage, a vital trait in a place teeming with predators. Vine snakes themselves are fairly passive ambush predators predominantly feeding on other arboreal animals; their preferred approach is to target animals that move below them, which are paralyzed by a fast-working venom while the snake maintains its grip. Vine snakes will sometimes gather in small groups, which both enhances their vine camouflage and facilitates the spread of leaf ticks, but often results in squabbles over prey.
