This take place during the events of Xenoverse 1.
During a Parallel Quest in the Frieza Saga, she and Drakon (her Earthling "acquaintance" at the time) are struggling against Frieza until he actually lands a "lethal" Death Beam at Drakon (it didn't kill him, but it looked like it in her eyes). At this point in Xenoverse 1's events, she was just starting to see him as a friend rather than an annoyance, so seeing him "die" in front of her was enough to push her past the breaking point and "awaken the legendary warrior in her heart". After blocking a few more Death Beams from Frieza...Connie is done playing games!
I'm honestly glad with how this came out, despite how I got the sad news of Akira Toriyama's passing during the highlighting/shading phase.
