"Quick Color Tryout" - Base Version
"I'm writing a story with him, I need to determine how exactly he looks," I thought.
"A quick sketch to nail down his colors," I thought, "he's my sona after all."
"Nothing too detailed," I thought, "a quick color tryout."
Oh, how wrong I was. This "quick color tryout" escalated beyond all expectations. After more than 30 hours of work (scattered over three months), I had remade the line art at least thrice and ended up with 3 (or 6) finished versions of this "sketch"; and I would've made two more if I wasn't fed up with working on this.
The pose is a bit stiff and flat, due to it starting out as a "quick color tryout" with the intention to show his pattern.
The background was done comparatively hastily.
Here is his proper refsheet.

Hey man tiny critique(? Advice? Unno)
Trust me on this (as inused to do the same mistake)
you dont have to draw the feathers so tightly/neatly together and so many on each wing its much more „realistic“ but also easier to draw them bigger and a lesser amount on each wing(arm?) would also be less time consuming

Thank you for your advice.
Yes, I distinctly remember spending way too much time on the feathers (even going so far as to count the number of feathers on each wing to make sure they were the same) and being frustrated, thinking to myself that drawing individual feathers like that was a blunder I wouldn't want to repeat. Yet, me having the "perfectionist's curse" and having already started, I simply couldn't quit.
One ought to always learn from mistakes and I think I've (mostly) learnt my lesson from the ultimate waste of time this "quick" color tryout was...
Nonetheless, I very much appreciate your comment and hope to read from you again at some point!
