The melancholy music of the radio played against the lapping water.
"What are you doing here?" growled the fox.
"Why am I here in the midst of poison so thick it could drop a puma in minutes? I could ask you the same thing... But I suspect its for the same reason I come out here," the coyote responded from the shoreline.
The fox remained silent, not even a listening ear showing she was paying attention.
"I'll leave you be," the coyote mumbled, turning.
"No wait! Please stay," she said turning and holding a paw up. The coyote stopped mid stride, confused by this sudden change in attitude.
He made his way slowly to a few nearby pillars, though his scrabbling efforts to get to the top made the fox chuckle. Finally he sat down, and joined her in watching the water ripple. Both, together with their own thoughts.
