Also, I seem to have this special ability to hit myself in the crotch when I attempt to poi. Then again, I'm using bits of ribbon and glow sticks. Maybe I shouldn't tie them with bunny knots. xD

Your first nono is you are using glowsticks. That's not poi, that's glowsticking. Glowsticks are too light to use as poi they take roughly 4 times the energy to keep the momentum than heavy poi. Second, you probably aren't doing the planes straight ahead. These are easy fixes. I make sock poi if you care to commission them. See gallery for the example I made.
