Comic: Guided By The Wind (Page 8)
As if Ithaca had pinched a nerve, Zenchi brushed off her prior comments. She stood up out of frustration, and questioned, “Admirable? Tch, it's a drop in the bucket if anything. I can't do anything to save everyone, just the ones I ‘happen’ to meet. This whole world's cursed, Ithaca.” She begins to monologue, frustrated at her shortcomings and the despicable state of the world. “Pain, suffering, death, violence, war, name it. Someone out there right now could be going through the same Hell that we went through and no one will be there to save them.” She shrugs her shoulders and gives off a dismissive laugh, and continues, becoming more personal, “Having everything taken away from you in the blink of an eye...I still have flashbacks to that night...it's just…unbearable.”
Zenchi looks away, unable to look her friend in the eye, ashamed of herself. Progressively becoming more and more agitated, Lightning pulsates from her right arm. As tears start to well up in her eyes, she lets out an emotional huff and uses her immensely powerful Tachyon Punch on a nearby tree, “GAHHH!!! It wouldn't be this way if it weren't for HER! That fiend, that witch, that plague, that SNAKE, LAPIS. She made me this way!” Unsure of how to comfort her, Ithaca worriedly looks on as her friend lets loose years of pent-up anger and sadness, “Chi-Chi…” Zenchi frantically questions Ithaca, eyes wide open and full of tears, “Why the hell did she let me live? To laugh at me like I'm her jester? *sniffle* You know what I saw?” The woman behind the attack made sure to scar the dragoness at a young age, leaving her scared and alone. Continuing, “I saw my mother's and father's final moments as they fought life and limb to protect me!” Zenchi vividly remembers the night the attack on Alleria-Sune took place. Amidst the fire and flames, she witnessed her father bloodied and struggling to fend off the invaders, before he smiled at her. Alas, the smoke overtook them, and his fate was sealed. Her mother had tried to escape the village with her daughter in tow, but unfortunately suffered a similar fate. After being caught off guard by another soldier, he attempted to seize her daughter. But with an old, rusty dagger, she fought for her daughter’s life at the cost of her own.
In Zenchi’s distress, she questions even further, loathing the path she’d been forced to take, “Do you have any idea how much I wish I could go back to the days of our quiet little village, enjoying life, not having to fight to make ends meet, trying to achieve some impossible goal?” She tries to compose herself, balling up her fists at her side. Even though she is full of regrets and guilt, she convinces herself that she had been no better than the very woman that ruined her life in the first place. “*sigh* I'm pathetic, only driven by anger and revenge. Ithaca, you were always my only true friend in life, like an older sister I never had.” The once stoic warrior that showed no signs of fear or giving up, now trembled as she grew increasingly more distraught. With a shaky voice, she apologizes, “But earlier, I didn't even recognize you...I-I could have killed you, and you forgave me. *sniffle* What the hell is wrong with me? I'm so sorry, Ithaca!”
