Buck Brothers: National Kite Day (2/8/24)
The 8th of February is National Kite Day. To some, kites are just plain toys, but many grown ups also find the pleasures and joys in kite-flying.
In 1000 BCE, the first kite was invented in China. Chinese philosophers Mo Di and Lu Bau have used bamboo, and silk to make kites to fly. Most kites come in an array of different shapes and sizes with the iconic one being the diamond-shaped.
Kites have played in a part of history with Ben Franklin using one to conduct electricity by tying a key to the rope. Originally, he was hoping to use a church,a rod to conduct, but he rushed to use a couple of sticks and a handkerchief to make one.
You may also see it today with the flags. The raising of a flag is a lot like kite flying, so the next time you see a kite, think of it as a pole less flag in the wind.
