Today in the Vexillogical Corner…
The sixth of February is Waitangi Day in 🇳🇿 New Zealand. The day celebrates the founding of the island country and home to the known flightless bird, the kiwi, which is also the term to people who live or native to New Zealand.
The flag was adopted on March 24, 1902, and the red and white five-pointed stars on the outer right on the fly field represent the Southern Cross which was designed by Albert H. Markham. The flag also shares the Southern Cross Star Pattern like and not to be confused with 🇦🇺 Australia.
Over five million people live on New Zealand as of 2024.
As of now I also miss Dave and Tracy on the flagsession page and I look forward to seeing some more flag content from them really soon. I hope you guys are well and taking it slow and enjoying this holiday.
