Language of the gods
The Elf Wars (妖精戦争, Yōsei Sensō) is an extremely bloody series of battles that marked the closure of the Maverick Wars, one century prior to the events of the Mega Man Zero series. It is considered the worst war in history, and it was named for the exploitation of many Cyber-elves in the conflict (with the Dark Elf as well as the Baby Elves in particular being noteworthy examples). Although the Elf Wars lasted only four years, the casualties were extremely deep: approximately 90% of all Reploids and 60% of all humans were wiped out. The events of the Elf Wars are directly related to the storyline of the Zero games.
Prelude
After X used the Mother Elf to delete the Sigma Virus, the number of Mavericks decreased significantly. It was at this point that the human scientist Dr. Weil proposed Project Elpizo: a plan to control all Reploids by combining the Mother Elf's rewriting abilities with a Reploid created to be a perfect ruler.[1] Although X opposed this operation and Dr. Weil's "philosophy of rule" with his own "philosophy of coexistence", a fear of a long-lasting war resulted in increasing support for Project Elpizo.[2]
To further his own secret agenda of a new world order with him as ruler, Dr. Weil instigated the Elf Wars by stealing the Mother Elf herself and corrupting her with a "curse" that turned her into the Dark Elf. Dr. Weil then created the Baby Elves, infant copies of the Dark Elf which he used to make Reploids turn Maverick and fight each other on a grand scale, plunging the world into chaos.[3] With full support from the human government, Dr. Weil continued Project Elpizo and attempted to exert total control over all Reploids in the world by combining the Dark Elf with the Reploid Omega. For the longest time, it's bugged me how Mega Man seems to have this deep interconnected lore that they're building up, but on closer examination they don't really do that. They make each game fresh, and give it soft ties that seem to connect but aren't driving the multigenerational official lore I wish existed. Rather, it's all up to the fans to make stuff up, but we could always make stuff up, anyways, right?
Of course, Mega Man is pulling strongly from Astroboy, and Tezuka's work was done in a similar way, especially Astroboy.
At any rate, even if it's a 'fan wank' I find the extrapolations I make from the Mega Man games, especially X and forward, to be really inspiring, interesting, and fun. <3
I think there's probably more real connected lore to Kirby than Sakurai lets on but he might be doing it from the seat of his pants, too. Ironically, I like Kirby the same as Mario, and I don't think either need lore as much as Mega Man and yet have more connection. The setting is fun and interesting and it'd be a treat to be one of those cute mooks or baddies or whatever. The story and deep stuff is just frosting. <3

Not really? Starting with x Onward capcom has made efforts to connect things. That's more of a classic era or spin off issue.

All of humanity slowly dying off as they explore the stars. Having to mimic God and creature sudo humans just to cultivate a planet for them. With genocide if the populations get to big in legends.

A by game example
X1 (using Maverick hunter x)
X is awoken, he's crazy smart and close to human. So much so every robot is based on him going forward making reploids. Zero sacrifices himself to save X. Dr Cain dies.
X2
Zero can be be revived~ Sigma is confirmed alive. The shadow organization here doesn't really matter outside of Wily being revived.

We start to see traitors popping up in Maverick HQ. Not from a virus or malfunction but because robots aren't treated correctly.
X4
This is grown into repleforce. A group of robots that want more rights. Zero's back story is further revealed. He is given some grief over killing iris.
He's also why Sigma went Maverick in the first place. As Dr Wily had given him a pretty stellar virus.
X meanwhile is having to deal with the fact he caused this. He's the sentient being leading to the war coming up. It's where his pacifism really begins.

The apocalypse is here~ man kind is fucked~ yaaaaay. Sigma's influence has grown so much in the background Mavericks are everywhere of fuck.
Zero meanwhile is wrestling with causing all of this in a different way. The Sigma Virus, is the zero virus.
The whole war is pretty much his fault. It's why he decides to go into deep sleep at the end. Shit's gone so wrong, he nearly killed his best friend, and nearly wiped all of humanity out.
X here is more supporting to zero. As both their arcs are coming to a close.

Weird filler that disrupts Canon, and brings back Wily for no real reason.

This one has huge implications.
So this is where the elf wars kick off in earnest. The Sigma Virus doesn't matter anymore. Reploids are so close to human they can just ignore the 3 laws of robotics outright.
The space elevator is near completion or completed at the end. Lumine is leading the resistance to destroy humanity. An the off world colony we see in command mission is starting in Ernest.
Command mission.
This... it's a spin off but shows us that humanity does indeed get away from earth. Also shows that the war is really on us. The new technology force metal being a big deal everyone is fighting over.
It also gave us cinnamon. Best girl in the X time line.
From here tho though 1000s year wars started happening. The colonies became neo Arcadia. An the racism against robots from those wars is at an all time high. Especially with the energy crisis.
Leading into the zero games. Which pick up right from where X left off.
Zero gets woken up, X has an evil hyper pacifist copy, and reploids are about to be wiped out. Lot of neater stuff here like fighting omega zero who is zero's original body. Wily finally getting killed for good. (Sorta, he lived. Opens a boat shop in legends just missing an eye lmao)
As for the kirby part.
Sakurai isn't really in control of the series and hasn't been for awhile. If I recall right he was only really there for the Dark matter games.
An even then we have neat stuff. Morpho knight is the most insane one since we all daw the butterfly and went "wait.. something is up" then suddenly "HERES MORPHO KNIGHT!!! HES BEEN WATCHING YOU EVERY GAME :3"
