Canonical to Cedar's backstory is the fact that they're the reincarnation of an ancient lycanthropic ranger named Cerridwen. Cerridwen defeated a human warlord from her time that would have possibly taken over the world. The battle to stop him was so drawn out that once the deed was done, Cerridwen vowed to always stand vigil to make sure that warlord would never again threaten the world the same way again, centuries later, that warlord would come back as the vampire lord, Dexious Greycastle, and Cerridwen would be reincarnated as Cedar.
