*blows the dust off of his FA* Hello again folks! It occurred to me that I've been neglecting my FA pretty hard lately. It's not deliberate, I assure you.
Also, anyone interested in this sort of stuff, please check the question at the end.
Those of you who know me, (or have peaked at the art on here) know that Leeran has some pretty extensive limb replacement. His arm and his leg are supposed to be cybernetic. But I was too intimidated by the concept of making a fursuit to even try for the extra mile of making the cybernetics. So so-far, Leeran's been a pretty nondescript suit. (with the descriptions he *has* gotten, like "Down syndrome wolf", being less than desirable.)
With a few new skills under my belt, I'm hoping to bring the suit closer to the intended result. With the help of the folks at the 256 Makers local (if you're in alabama, and like the ideas of 3D printers, propmakers, and welders under one roof. Look them up)
Anywho, lets talk about this calf! (Yes, that's what this part is supposed to be.
This calf is currently starting off as a pepakura file from the folks at The 405th Infantry from a Mjollnir MKIV. Once it's glassed and bondo'd, it will be getting more personal touches added on. But for now, I'm just happy to have something *solid* that I can show folks so they can picture the finished result.
This took about three days of a few hours here and there to make. I'd say a grand total of eight hours.
The reason these take so long isn't the folding, nor the gluing. It's the cutting/prepping. Notice the little black dots all over? Those are numbers. Each number represents a "faces" that connects one side to the other. Some of them look like gears, others look like triangles. But they *all* need to be cut out, fairly neatly, to ensure that the parts attach properly.
They also need to be marked, so that when you fold them, you fold them properly, with either a mountain (upward) or a valley (downward) fold. I used a thick tipped red ballpoint for valleys, and a fine tipped blue ballpoint for mountains.
This leg contains 50 separate parts, with 644 faces. It is one of less complex parts of the 29 individual parts that will eventually be compiled, fiberglassed, possibly cast/molded and finally turned into the cybernetics for the fursuit.
Now for a question! Of those of you reading this, how many would be interested in a tutorial on how to make things like this?
I've still got most of the arm to build, so if anyone is interested, I'll be more thorough picture wise to give you guys a good idea of what to expect if you try to take the pepakura route of prop building. Including the fiberglassing and any other steps I run into along the way.
