For the most part, it walks on the front and rear claws. Sometimes using the flat side and rear fins to boost itself on the smoother sand. There have been some reports of the creature using these to slide down the planets many sand dunes, but no proof currently exists.
It uses the light shell on its back as both protection, shade, and to lure the smaller hive drones or leeches to within its grasp.
The thin claws allow it to reach within small holes if needed.
The soft villi-like surface of the inner shell is capable of drawing in the planets morning fog, keeping the crab hydrated, as well as release a scent to draw in prey. However, it is also very delicate and often the target of the planets larger creatures.
The center muscle can raise, or lower the light shell.
When night begins to close in, the crab lowers this shell, digs its center and rear fins deep into the sand. This is to stop the planets fierce night-time winds from throwing the crab into a vulnerable position. The villi also expands to increase its surface area to trap as much heat as possible while it waits out the night.

I don't think I'll ever spend as much time as I did painting a crab than this piece...That said, I wish I had more time to work on it. Good fun this.
