More than that. Brutus insulted and degraded him. It's a combination of frustration at both Brutus and Ryne and his pride as a wolf.

Twofold: to vent his frustration and to prove something to Brutus and himself. You could also say that, subconsciously, his animal instincts knew something was up. Either way, I'll let you decide.

Wallow's role model is the Big Bad Wolf.

A part of me wonders if Wallow ever knew that the one he tried to model himself upon was an evil villain.
