Welcome back to another Gun Day Sunday! I love my VZ82. It's so small that it makes my hands look like a normal size. No pic rail. No optics cuts. No locked breach. No threaded muzzles. Just a bare Cold War era Combloc handgun with no modern niceties. Gotta love the basics.

VZ82 (That's right. Just a gun. No other gear or stuff)

Absolutely correct!
The fanciest thing I've EVAH purchased (High-tech/electronic), is my one-and-only Vortex scope (For my Ruger Precision). It has a battery. :: GROWLS with fur all bristled-up... :: HOWEVAH! Nothing about it demands a battery is NEEDED! I gotta admit, I sorta like the illuminated reticle, for low-lite situations, but I certainly don't HAVE to have it to still use the scope. So I caved and invested the $$$ for this nifty little eye-aid!
As for all the other nifty 'Lasers' that can be attached for quick/easy target acquisition?... Still on the rails with that one.
Also, I'll NEVER install a flashlight on any firearm I wield. I can't imagine a better way to broadcast MY exact location to any potential threat!

I still stand by that a weapon light is still part of the top 3 things to put on a fighting gun. Simply because it allows for night fighting capability for less than $300. Momentary activation of lights and LAMs with tape switches truly do make a difference. The point is to not have a light on until you use it. I don't think I've taken a carbine night fighting course where anyone used a WML with it on and not when shooting. It's off until you need to take the shot. As for LAMs, they are only good when under NODs. IR laser designators and IR illuminators make shooting in the dark super useful.
I guess my point is that simplicity is good and it is great to have the fundamentals, but it is also good to have capability beyond what is normal. After shooting with the high end gear, it is nice to just tone it back to just irons and no electronics. But then after some time without modern amenities, you go back to the extreme kit again for a time to just enjoy shooting in the dark or do advanced training classes. And the cycle spirals.

I've got folks all around me that are hardcore 'Tech' and I can't deny the effectiveness of what they're sporting. We do night shoots/training, and while I participate in the capacities I'm can, I'm WAY out of my league side-by-side with any of 'em! 'I' cannot see in the dark, nor do any of my optics/equipment help me do so. This can certainly be a huge disadvantage to myself, I admit. However?... I'm not wealthy, and have to take great care in what meager monies I have to fund/invest/maintain my own equipment/needs, so a multi-thousand-dollar set of night vision goggles is just beyond me.
But I have companions who already have 'em!
Teamwork, it IS a thing!
lol

And that right there is the perfect position for why WMLs are still relevant! Not everyone wants to blow $3000+ for Elbit tubes and PVS14 housings. It's just not lucrative or budget friendly. But a $150 Streamlight that outputs 1000 Lumens so that you can identify targets so you don't accidentally shoot what you don't want to destroy, now that's far more reasonable. Most night fighting courses I've been to allow for white light in use for the course so that students can learn when and where to use the light. You don't have to sacrifice the element of surprise that much with proper use of a light.
Sadly, simple blowback handguns are just not strong enough to take 9mm Luger. The lack of a locked breach and low amount of slide weight to help delay the action would be very dangerous. The only attempt at a blowback 9x19mm handgun was by HK with the VP70. But, even then, in order to get the pressures to not destroy the gun the rifle cuts in the barrel vent gases to escape through the muzzle instead of propelling the projectile which results in a 9mm ~115gr bullet leaving the muzzle with terminal performance roughly that of .32ACP.
An interesting choice of wear for holding a cold war handgun.
I'm not complaining, but it has a "Slavic granddaughter learning how to shoot" vibe. Although here, you've made it clear our individual here (yourself) already knows how to shoot, both in terms of looking at the pose and face of current image and you know... your whole FA page.
My stupid Random, yes with a capital R, a neat drawing that helps makes my Sunday feel fun.

Once upon a time I saw one of these at a local FFL that specialized in milsurp; I really wanted it for a carry piece(I usually worked alone at night and was allowed to be armed; my 1911 was a bit too big and bulky and I wanted something smaller). Unfortunately it was a bit out of my budget so I opted for the FEG PA63 they had sitting next to it.
Unfortunately that shop lapsed on their FFL a while back so they only sell militaria and a small selection of pre-1899 firearms. I've seen some mindbogglingly rare and classic C&R pieces there.
