Conventional projects for a space-based solar power station are based on well-known photovoltaic panels and microwave emitters, but their great mass and bulk requires multiple launchs and orbital assembly. Two ways to reduce the complexity and launch mass is to use solar-pumped lasers (see section 'laser power transmission') and inflatable solar concentrators so that the complete system can be stowed inside a standard fairing.
