RIP Dr Henry Kissinger
Henry Kissinger passed away at the ripe old age of 100. Henry and his family, who are Jewish, saw the writing on the wall and fled Germany in 1938. Henry the scholar, would graduate Summa cum laude from Harvard in 1950 and earned his Masters and Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard in 51 and 54.
Henry played a massive role in US Foreign Policy between 1969-1977 and pioneered Detente with the Soviets and opened up relations with China. He served under Nixon and Ford and was involved with the shuttle diplomacy during the Yom Kippur War and worked on the Paris Peace accords to help end the Vietnam war. Earning a Nobel Peace Prize in 1973.
And yes, Henry had his controversies. especially in the Vietnam war. But Henry was also the wedge in between China fully taking Taiwan, annoying the hell out of the Chinese Communists.
Plus I had to do this, least

To quote Anthony Bourdain, "Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands."
In short, his actions are directly or indirectly responsible for many millions of deaths over the course of his career. Did he do some good things? Yes. You can say the same thing about Hitler though. Last I checked, Hitler isn't remembered for his work on improving working conditions in German factories and his campaign against tobacco use. Kissinger is probably going to be likewise in the coming decades.

Hold my beer, did you just compare a Jew who narrowly escaped the holocaust with Adolf Hitler? Does it not occur to you how wildly awful that equivocation is?
Anthony Bourdain, entertaining chef-poet as he was, was a cocaine addict who killed himself.
You have interesting heroes. Kissinger was no saint, but the world needs more pragmatic statesmen, and less dim-sum philosophers on drugs.

Kissinger narrowly escaped the Holocaust. Hitler narrowly escaped death in the trenches of WW1. Both killed many millions of people as a result of their actions. Both were awful people. That they are not equally bad is irrelevant. Not all of my household trash is equally discussing, but I'm still gonna put it in the same trashcan.
As best as I can see, Anthony Bourdain only ever caused the death of one person in his life. Himself. Still a better track record than Kissinger.
You have no idea who my heroes are. I can say that Hitler and Kissinger are not on my list. "Pragmatic statesmen" is not a word I would use to describe Kissinger any more than I would use to to describe Madaline Albright.

To be honest I never heard of this guy till today. I’m hearing mixed things I saw one journal earlier today about glad he’s dead.
He was before my time so I didn’t live during his time or such. And from I’m gathering on one hand he did great things while other he had some controversies and allot. But I don’t think it’s my place to judge him since I wasn’t even around at the time. Plus which politician ever survived their career without controversies?
So while I know he had a good deal of controversies especially during the Vietnam war which my grandfather is a veteran of. But if he also did allot of great things like being a thorn to communist China’s side and such. I’ll respect him enough to be praying for him and his family.

I hadn't even heard he died. I have to say, the legacy of diplomacy he left behind will be unmatched. Whenever the threat of war rose up, he was there to be the voice of compromise. We will miss him. And so.....

The legend has left this world.
And even up to his final year he was still making his rounds, giving his advice. Moving those chess pieces around. Sure, there are a lot of blood smears on the chess board, but what's some millions of casualties to people who play games on that scale? Someone with a career that lasted as long as his, with as many varied pursuits as his, almost transcends the levels of morality that most people understand. An excellent and practical diplomat, a bloodthirsty monster, all of the above. He was our monster. Or the Deep State's anyways.
His impact on popular culture is nearly as heavy as his impact on global politics. He's been in celebrity circles, comic books, and in animation. And there's that Monty Python song that is getting a LOT of circulation now, of course.
I expected the tribute above, and of course I appreciate it...and I'm tickled to be mentioned. The man has long fascinated me...for the good and the bad. And the simple fact that in the ongoing madness of our Western Civilization, a man like that could exist.

What

The man did, for better or worse, defined the geopolitics of mid cold war era and set the stage for the finale that was the Reagan administration.
In addition to the bombing of Vietnam and Cambodia, he also supported the new order regime in my country and gave his blessing (and supplied equipments) for the '75 invasion of East Timor. As the caricature of late president Soeharto always said - fun times.

I'm a Millennial, so Henry Kissinger was a bit before my time. Still, given his large presence in pop culture and animation, and his distinct voice that was often parodied, I heard of him from cartoons, but I'm not sure which cameo was the first I saw. Maybe I first saw him in Freakazoid or Animaniacs, but the first I distinctly remember was Futurama, in that episode where Fry and Bender enlist to get a military discount, only to get swept up in a war with a race of bouncing ball aliens. They brought in Henry Kissinger's head to help with the peace negotiation, so I figured he must have been some kind of famous negotiator. This notion was further reinforced by the Venture Bros. parody character of him, Dr. Henry Killinger, who also negotiated (Faustian) deals in the show.
I never really thought to look into him and what he did, until now, after his death. Now that I have, I can comfortably say that his parody, Dr. Killinger, is actually less evil than the man he's based on, even with his Magic Murder Bag.

'If it were not for the accident of my birth, I would be antisemitic.... Any people who has been persecuted for two thousand years must be doing something wrong.'"
Dr Henry Kissinger
Make no mistake, this man was a monster. His "foreign policy" around the world killed millions and sparked the flames of the Vietnam war. He should have died way sooner.

Perhaps you didn't realize I will draw up the good and the bad when it comes to someone famous dying. Hell, I even drew up known terrorists and psychos. They were part of history.
Go look at my gallery and click on memorials, go see who I covered before stomping on my ass like that.
