I feel that's how he actually being born as new person in the visual interpretation i see in my head as well. Instead of husk which is heartless, cruel and not even feeling any love that was created for the mere purpose of serving the bloody legacy of the Dread Lord he became something new through pain, agony and misery this journey was throwing at him and his allies putting a literal burning heart into his own previously empty chest that is seething of passion and will to live
