There was a lost and found at the hotel.
When Eliot showed them the pin, they took it, and told him that if no one claimed it in a month, it'd be his.
A month later, when he and the Springers came back from the week in New Zealand, he was informed that no one claimed it.
So he took it happily, he felt it was a really nice piece of jewelry.
Two weeks later, good things came to an end. Vacation was over. It was time to go home and get back to work.
While he was sad that vacation ended, Eliot was also happy to get back to his animation board, to create more Dog City stories.
"Hey, look who's here!" exclaimed a voice when he entered his flat.
To see Ace again.
"Hey, Ace," smiled the artist.
"Well, looks like you had a great time with your vacation," smiled the cartoon character.
Eliot happily told him all the great activities he had with Terri and Artie during these two months.
"Thanks for making me go, Ace, really!"
"Hey, no problem. Er, what's that?"
Eliot realized the private eye was pointing at the pin, that was put on his shirt, and explained how he acquired it.
"Never saw the point of man jewelry, but it's a nice one," commented Ace.
"Yeah," said Eliot as he removed the pin and put it down next to his animation board. "And you, how the two months went?"
"Oh, nothing special, we just killed time, that's all."
Eliot couldn't help but cringe a bit. The first time Ace began talking and acting by himself, without his control, scared the crap out of him.
But quickly, his creation became a very close friend, and while he wasn't above trolling him or putting him through slapstick, he felt a responsability to him, to his characters, to the world he created, and he remembered how reluctant he had been to go to vacation because of it...
"Oi, don't begin regretting it!" barked Ace, realizing what was going on. "I made you accept it, remember? Besides, it's not as if I died of boredom, now that the others begin realizing too the situation, we could have fun with some out of board experiences."
It was true. Eliot had noticed that during the work on the new formula, the other characters had begun realizing their nature.
Oh, they couldn't talk with their creator yet, but they were beginning to realize they were fictional characters, controlled or guided by a "higher" being, and were surprisingly accepting of it.
Maybe because Ace was already used to it since a while, must have helped.
"Yeah, you're right, Ace."
"And besides, you're back now, so we can get back to work."
"Not right now, Ace, I have to talk to my boss first. I have some ideas for the next episodes."
"Really? What?"
"I'll tell you if he validates. Now, if you don't mind, I have to undo my luggage, and then bed time! It's getting late."
Thus was done.
Ace was shaken awake by the familiar sensation of Eliot working on a new story.
I thought he'd talk to his boss first.
Looking up, what he saw was concerning.
Eliot was drawing and animating all right.
But his eyes were glazed, his expression vacant...
"Eliot?! Hey, Eliot! EEEELIIIIOOOOT!!"
No reaction at all.
He's asleep?! He's sleepdrawing?!
His shock grew stronger when he saw and realized that the artist's body was surrounded by a faint aura of light.
"What the?!"
Ace "transferred" himself in one of the posters to the wall to have a better view.
And saw that, next to the board, the pin was glowing bright.
"What the hell?!"
He tried again to yell as loud as possible, even went back to the board to shake it or grab the pencil.
In vain. Eliot kept drawing, animating, still asleep, apparently controlled by the pin.
Worried sick, Ace returned to the poster to see what exactly Eliot was drawing, and pray that this strange situation wouldn't end badly...
