A tree and a tire were having a conversation one morning...


Said the tire, "Hey there, pal. How long have you been here?"

The tree replied, "Oh, I've been here a while."

"I just got here myself. What do you think of the area?"

"My opinion is irrelevant. This is where I am."

"I guess you don't like it, huh? Ever think of moving to a new neighborhood?"

"I can't move."

"Well, maybe someday your situation will improve and you can move to a better-"

"I mean I cannot move. I'm a tree. I've spent my whole life here and I shall likely perish here."

"I've spent my life on the move. At least I did until that guy threw me off the back of his pick-up. But I sure did a lot of traveling in my time! I've been everywhere!"

"Interesting. What did you see?"

"Mostly the pavement and the inside of a fender. I guess you haven't seen much either, being stuck here and all."

"No, not much. I've seen the sun come up and the sun go down thousands of times. Birds flying past, sometimes landing in my branches, sometimes building their nests in me. I've seen people going to work, and coming home later. Kids going to school. Playing their games. Babies being pushed in strollers. Funeral processions rolling by."

"Well, I guess we have more in common that you'd think then, huh?"

"If you say so."
