well for me he is fully canine. as he is my second fave pokemon and eversince i played pokemon i been seeing him as a big fluffy doggie. i just stay with that opinion assumption. sure he has hig fluffed neackhair but so do wolves. not as much as arcanine but its asian to kinda make things more then they oftenly are. and as for the stripes your right they do look like tigerstripes even though tigers, like zebras have patern in them. but i see your way of thinking lotsa neckhair(maybe manes) and stripes, it could be seen as a mega mix hybrid of big dogs and big cats.

yes i do know they supposedly are the living version of the lionthing statues you see in lots of asian culture. but to me they stay Canine
