Scam Attempt on Discord: Shana in a Tree
So...have you noticed a Flux of profiles with empty Scraps and an empty Gallery roaming around lately?...
The type of profiles that don't even show examples of their work but state that they have commissions that are open?
SCAM ALERT.
Avoiding Scammers:
Regardless of the platform, if somebody you don’t know directly messages you, use your best judgment. Take the time to check the artist’s profile, their registration date, check to make sure they have an established gallery with examples of their work, and a history of posting and interacting with users.
When paying for art, NEVER send money using methods like “Friends and Family”. When you do, you legally claim that the money sent is a gift and you waive your rights to a refund. Some platforms do not offer options for refunds. Once the money's gone, it’s gone.
Always check to ensure your payment method offers buyer protections. Scammers hate when their victims have the ability to get a refund.
They'll message you, ask you to add them on another platform and then show you artwork that you can easily backward / reverse search and they come up with an excuse, such as "Oh that was a Collab" or "Oh that was a college submission" and so on.
They, are, fake, artists. None of what they're showing you is theirs, and most likely put through an AI filter to remove watermarks and get around the whole Image Search tool.
Do NOT trust anyone whom has an empty gallery, a new profile or both.
Please ask for examples of their work and only pay 50% of their requested money, ensuring that it's refundable encase they disappear or are an alternative account to a Scammer like the username ItsThor tried to do with me. [Banned for being a Scammer].
I was offered SPECTACULAR work, and this is what I was shown as a WIP. Not even 1% close to what they showed me as an example of their anatomy and foreground detail. Heck, look at the 'Dress' they put up on the branch, it looks like it's someone else's and just quickly edited on.
I also have these Tree / Branch paint brushes on Photoshop...this is beyond Lazy.
Please, for your own mental health and your wallet, please be more Scam Aware and be more adamant about seeing WIP's of work you've paid for. Do not be afraid to ask for what you are owed. And especially do not be afraid to file a dispute with your bank if they're delaying it enough to ensure that a refund is too difficult to obtain from them. [Paypal and Banks may only dispute to a certain amount of time, then it's not their problem and you should've filed sooner in their eyes].
This is a WARNING to everyone, not to trust the new accounts until you are 100% sure they are legit. Otherwise you end up with absolute rubbish like this.
Scam Art is not Art.
I got my money back from this scammer, but some aren't so lucky.
Please be more Scam Aware. Do not trust empty profiles or random Note's trying to encourage you off-site to strike up a deal or 'talk about an idea'.
Also take notes if the person even paid attention to your profile, if you only have furry characters but they only show a portfolio of some humans and a monster. This is fake. They're showing no interest because they have no interest in anything but your money. Not in making you happy.

Nope! I told him I wouldn't pay anything before a concept sketch was given and he kept pressuring me to pay something first. so I told him that I wasn't interested and blocked him.
also have noticed scammers all use the same "note style" to try and get my attention. its like copy and paste central

Nice!! I'm glad you kicked them in the booty where it was deserved.
You deserve better than random scumbags like that trying to steal your money and then draw you horribly because they have zero skill.
Right?! It's like on Facebook with those "I'd love to chat with you, can you add me as your friend?" after a paragraph of nonsense. When you've seen it for the 20th time on a singular page you know it's a scam, same with different names but the same style of writing.
I'm glad you didn't become a victim of these idiots ♥♥
