Day 8: Comfort Character

My boys Rex (left) and Fido (right) are silly little dudes I made in high school. They never really had a set story but they were just comedic, chill characters that were easy to draw even when suffering art block and really were just my go-to chill comfort characters.

Fido actually originated as a plushie that I bought at the first convention I ever went to (a little rice ball with a grumpy face) and evolved from there. Rex doesn't have a plush counterpart, but was made to be Fido's brother.

Fun fact - some features of the original duo were that Fido would turn into his rice ball plush version when startled, he could point finger guns at a target and inflict damage as if he fired a real gun (although it really only had the firepower of like a paintball gun), and his hoodie pocket canonically contained an endless supply of chocolate bars. Rex at one point in time could turn into a taco the same way fido turned into a rice ball, but that idea was quickly dropped. He had the same "finger guns" ability (with heavier firepower) and his very first integration he was supposed to be the evil clone/crack ship child of Fido, but that was very quickly dropped as well.
