So for the past week I started spending the first 2 hours of my day practicing dragon scales and faces. The expressions are all pretty bland and basic, just side profile shots, a couple mouths open and a couple closed. But the point of this was to get a better feel for painting and scale work. I am glad I have so many dragons on my desk for inspiration :) Anyway enjoy the non porn :P

The different scale variations seem to mean a lot of work... but NARSE... there is something I have to tell you now and I hope you SAVE this in the back of your mind:
With THIS exercise/sketchwork you're doing right now, you are "boosting" your artistical levels immensly!!!!!!!! What I'm trying to say is: you are developing new ideas, concepts... finally.
Finally. Yes, I have to say it.
You and me have figured that you were stepping on the point for a long time... you didn't came further, you lacked ideas and creativity.
But NOW... I see a bright glimpse of success!! ^____^
The scale designs are all very interesting and - even if it may be lots of work - I would suggest you add these to future dragon works or any scaled anthro... !!
Yeah, I like this sketch very much. It's the first time... in a long time... that I've seen an artist moving beyond his "usual boundaries".
This is called the "comfort zone", if you're interested. It's a psychological thing. People draw these things they're comfortable with and fear NEW ideas.
But by doing so, they NEVER get anywhere!!!!
Now, I see there is hope and I enjoy this, too.

I enjoy doing quick busts, too, because then I do not have to worry about the bodies. Scaaaaaaaaaaaaales. xP

for someone who says you have trouble with perspective, the depth perception of the horns, scales, and teeth are dead on. especially mister's middle bottom and left bottom.
