So, as I mentioned in a comment on the last chapter, I was pretty tired when I finished that at something like five in the morning, and I really did leave some things appearing to come out of left field without enough cleanup afterwards. There were reasons that all made sense, but some of them would have required a detective familiar with the world background to really suss out. So, adding a bit of cleanup here to bring out some of the less clear details of exactly why Mercedes felt the way she did...

Well, Tali sez the offer is open. She's helped others in the past...

*reads story and comments* Heh. As you may have noticed from some of my other stories here, I'm not exactly fond of bullies either. Part of why, even though I love giants and other macro stuff, I've never been particularly interested in the crunch-and-munch aspect of it.
Karmic retribution can be fun, though.
That said, this world is definitely being kept fairly low power; really, between the teleporting car (with strict limitations) and the scene where Cinnamon transforms someone into a copy of herself to take them over, this story has the highest-power events that I've written about in this universe. And I'm deliberately keeping it that way, because this world is rather the grim and gritty masquerade of quiet desperation and determination.
Sketch Upgrade, when I get back to that, is a little more upbeat and higher-power level, even if it's still working under a masquerade.
Though I've got another idea in my head that would start off with a modern 'normal' world that undergoes an incursion from another dimension with a higher 'magic' level of sorts, and my brain is going all Kamen Rider with it...

The anger a lot more sense now. All kinds of spirit-realm politics at play, and "I'm going to murder this guy right in front of you and there's *nothing* you can do about it" seems like a hell of a trigger. Especially after the whipsaw from thinking "please don't leave any giant craters that would show on the next satellite pass"...
Thanks. It's pretty exposition-heavy, obviously, so I'm having Marie be 'the Watson' again. Had to add a little callback to Azzy's comment about Marie being good for Mercedes from the first chapter; it just felt like it needed to be there after the rest of the heavy conversation.
