The Realm of Kaerwyn Issue 20 Page 109
I originally drew this page where everyone but Renard just grabs their ears from the sound of the shot. But every time I do that I realize how dull and boring that is. And more action was needed.
So the lesson learned here is that guns suck and make everything boring.

My best guess is Lori already told Ren in the past enough about the Order in her time that the Order is never to be trusted.
And considering what we know about the Order throughout Lori's time, I wouldn't trust them in some way to mess things up or to backstab are main characters here later. Not to mention that Ren seems to have a background that makes him distrust magic users on defualt. And Ren certainly doesn't tolerate those who abuse their powers, which Lori's Order is known to do.

That's okay, Jakkal. Considering how much the Order sucks in Lori's time, it feels good that the Order is getting so thoroughly owned by just one person like this.
Reminds me of a half remembered line an Ambomination thought in El Goonish Shive... "Magic ...(Something something) Flashing light and noise, all undone by mankinds toys."
