Tribute piece to my ferret who passed in the early summer of this year. He was only 3 years old, very very young for a ferret to pass (most live to be 7-10 years).
He had an unexplainable large tumor that showed no signs of any illness or abnormality. He was sent home with me and told me "some ferrets just have large spleens." So i thought nothing of it.

3 days later he was rushed to the emergency vet, not eating and not drinking. He was put on oxygen and hooked up to multiple IVs to keep him alive. He lasted another 6 days before we had to put him to sleep. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, mostly because it was so sudden and he was my first pet I bought and raised on my own. His feet were swollen like a balloon and he could barely breathe. We were told he would be gone within hours so we knew it was time.

He was there during my worst years of my life, and some of my best moments. He was there for my engagement, my college graduation, my first new car, etc. He always knew how to make me smile and laugh. He would always get into the bed or into my lap on car rides just to be close to me and make sure I was happy.

Its been about half a year and its still hard for me to type this and it was especially hard to do this drawing, but I knew I needed to use my talent to do something for him in his honor.

September 15th, Friday would have been his 4 year birthday. Even then he could have lived easily more then double his lifespan. He wasn't even half way there and I get so upset and angry that my sweet boy didn't get the long life he deserved. Heaven wanted him so badly they decided to take him early.

I hope he's having a great birthday up there and is getting all of the chicken, duck soup, and eggs he wants.

I'll see you again someday my sweet boy. You were my best friend and thank you for honoring me with your life and blessing me in my darkest years. Thank you for showing me what amazing creatures ferrets can be and for being the first of many. Your brother and sister miss you and I promise to take care of them until you get to play with them again on the rainbow bridge.
