CHAPTER 16
“Mommy! Mamaaa! Papaaaa!” A loud scream was heard in Rena's house. Both hy and hys lifemate Hesper Skunktaur woke up, rushing to Holly's room. Upon entering, the young skunk was out of bed, agitated and with a blank look. There were tears in hys eyes and hy was clutching the pillow tightly.
"What is happening dear?" Rena said hugging hym affectionately however, Holly wouldn't stop crying. Hesper stroked hys hair and gave Rena a serious look.
"Hys powers... are increasing," hy stated. Rena nodded as hy continued to comfort hys daughter. The male skunktaur sat on the bed next to them and said in a calm voice.
“Holly. You must learn to have control with your mental connections. The strong emotions of others can seriously affect us.”
"I was very scared... Very scared, dad... I don't know why," said the young woman between sobs.
"Sweetie. Take it easy. Relax your mind. Breathe. That is, little by little… ”Rena said as hy noticed that Holly began to calm down.
"I'm afraid our daughter faithfully inherited your mental abilities, Rena," Hesper commented.
"You're wrong love. I don't have that much connective sensitivity. I have to concentrate a lot to achieve it. Spontaneous connection was one of my father Vroeg's skills. I guess Holly inherited it from hym."
"I see" the male sighed. They both stayed with Holly until hy was completely quiet and went back to sleep. They were careful not to wake their youngest cubs, Cora and Teo, who were resting in the next room.
“Grrrrrr….. Ahhhhh…. By Gromm!!” A loud roar was heard on the roof of the hotel. A great tension dominated Droquen's body, while he held the hand of the polar bear, who dangled from the edge of the gazebo.
[By Grom! What the hell are you trying to do!] He exclaimed the renzar as he used all of his strength to prevent the female from falling into the void. Relia, as if coming out of a torpor, opened her eyes and was horrified to realize the situation she was in.
"Ahhhhhh!" "Ahhhhhh!"
“Give me your other hand, your other hand! Fast!" Droquen exclaimed vehemently trying to secure the polar bear. However, Relia moved in a panic, making Droquen's task even more difficult.
“By Grom! Your hand now!! Grrr!!” Roared the renzar with despair. Relia's tension and his own effort made the grip slippery with sweat. Droquen, in a desperate effort, and remembering his training at the Grom Guard Academy, used all of his strength and finally managed to reach the other arm. He leaned his body even more on the edge of the railing, helping himself with his paw clinging to the base.
“Grrr!! That's girl! I'll get you up! Now! Do not move! Hold on tight! Grrrr…!”
Droquen exclaimed, as he pulled Relia up, the weight of her own body leaning back. Little by little, the polar bear was emerging again over her railing, until finally Droquen managed to grab her armpits and pull her towards him. With momentum, they both fell to the ground of the roof, with Relia landing on top of the renzar. They looked at each other face to face, while breathing heavily. The female, after the adrenaline shock, rested her head on the Renzar's chest and began to cry bitterly. Droquen, feeling relieved, stretched out on the ground and uttered a few sentences in the Marlock language. Then he closed his eyes and tried to relax as well. Never in his life as a professional guard had he experienced a situation like that.
Esteban could not fall asleep. Knowing that his father was in Chakona did not let him rest. He got up quietly so as not to wake his fellow skunks, walked through the living room and out into the garden. His head needed some oxygen. He sat in the chair that Regthar used to use. The stars were shining beautifully in the sky, the night felt nice. Memories began to flow into the boy's mind, like so many other times. He still felt on his skin the blows that man gave him and his mother when he came home drunk. Esteban did not understand why his father hit him. He didn't understand why, from one moment to the next, his father stopped loving him.
"Oh Vroeg. What am I going to do? I still remember the first thing you said to me when we met. That parents always forgive their children if they make mistakes, and children also forgive their parents... Were you preparing me for this moment Vroeg?... Did you know that I should face my father one more time?... It's a tough battle , Vroeg. Very hard. And without you, I'm not sure I can win… You helped me against Ugkar and Doren. But now… Oh my friend, how I wish you were here, advising me… This battle is too big to fight alone.”
"I already told you, that you are not alone, Esteban" A voice was suddenly heard. It was Lilethe who had also gotten up and approached him completely naked.
“Lilethe! I'm sorry I woke you up."
"Forget it, Esteban. It's okay. Relax” Said the skunk, hugging him affectionately. The boy leaned against her soft breasts and closed his eyes.
“I feel so much resentment… I feel so much hate for my past and for that man Lilethe… And I know that it's not good to feel that… That's why I moved away from my past. That's why I didn't reply to his recorded message when Krim gave it to me. Because anything related to my father would awaken in me this... hatred... And I... I don't want to be like that, Lilethe. I don't want to hate!..” Said Esteban, with tears in his eyes.
“You are not like your father, Esteban. You are a better human being than he was. It is not worth darkening your beautiful aura, with feelings of hatred and resentment. That beautiful aura that captivated everyone's heart. I fell in love with a wonderful human being. And I won't let the darkness take it from me. Did you hear right, Esteban? I won't allow it” Lilethe said, grabbing the boy's head and looking into his eyes. Then, they both melted into a deep kiss, where Lilethe could taste Esteban's warm tears, which rolled to her mouth.
"I love you Esteban. Thank you for existing" Lilethe whispered deeply moved.
The lights of Amistad and the stars were still the stage where Droquen and Relia rested, sitting leaning against the wall, after what they had experienced. A rugged guard trained at the prestigious Grom academy, the renzar was someone of few words. Sitting next to the female, her guardian instinct told him that he shouldn't leave her alone for now. So he patiently waited for her to relax.
"I… I guess I should thank you and apologize for what I did" Relia said with a sad voice.
“Do you want me to notify your family? I can accompany you to your house” added Droquen. Relia, after taking a deep breath, declared.
"I have no family. And I am a tourist on this planet”
"Hum... Are you staying at this hotel?"
“No… I stayed because it was late for me to go back to my hostel, outside the city… I thought I was alone up here. I did not see you"
“Surely because I am a black-furred renzar. We are not easy to see” Said the renzar. Relia at that sentence, he looked at his savior with a smile. Then he added.
“Please don't tell anyone what just happened. I feel so… Shame… You must think I'm a fool”
"I will not say anything. What you do with your life is your business,” the male replied dryly. After a moment, he added him.
“In Grom, we have a saying. If you're going to give your life, do it for a good reason. In my culture, dying for your friends is a matter of honor. Make your life something worth dying for.” Relia was silent for a moment. After a deep breath, she declared herself.
“Thank you again, for saving me. Could you… Could you hold me for a moment… Please.” The renzar agreed, putting his arm around her and snuggling against him. Relia closed her eyes and calmly enjoyed the embrace of that unknown Renzar, who, by chance, had also gone up to the viewpoint to contemplate the lights of the city.
