So, I was in Kohl's today, looking for an emerald green bow tie (it's for a play), when I happened to spy a shelf of novelty watches, including this pocket watch. As it happens, my character not only would likely have a pocket watch on his person, but I've wanted a pocket watch for quite a while. So, I just had to have it! It's cheap, and it's nowhere near what I really want in a pocket watch (I want one where you can either see the gears or one with all the extra little dials), but it's a start, and it doesn't look half bad. What you can't see is that the cover is this strange novelty thing with a design. I had a few choices, including a patriotic eagle, but I went for an old steam locomotive. As if there was any choice for a steampunk fan…

As for why I did the little still life and the haiku, it's because I didn't want to just take a picture and show it off. I wanted something halfway artistic. I'll put a picture of the front of the watch in my scraps. Oh, and the book is my old copy of The American Boy's Handy Book.
