Shrooman
Homeworld - N/A
Shroomans are a race of sentient mushrooms. Originally cultivated by early space travelers for medicinal and culinary purposes, the legend goes that one ship was lost in space, the crew dead. The Mushrooms, however, could thrive in the depth of space and, through cosmic radiation, would evolve and merge with the corpse of the original crew and would take over the dead bodies like parasites. OVer the course of several generations, the original colony of fungus hosts would evolve the need for these bodies and would develop humanoid bodies without the need of a host, resulting in their modern day form; oddly colored humanoid forms with no nose, eyes, but a mouth and a mushroom cap growing out of the top of their head and covering the face - or lack thereof. Shroomans have various colors oh mushroom caps with odd colors of splotches and dots across both the mushroom cap and skin. Their skin tends to be colors of yellow or green, though other colors are possible. Shroomans, on average, can live up to 100 years, 150 if they live a safe, stress-free life. They reach adulthood at age 20.
Shroomans do not have an original home planet due to being a cosmic accident in the depths of space. But they're a very adaptable species, capable of adapting to most planet's atmosphere as long as its capable of hosting their spores. Shroomans have, however, colonized the Doomsday Belt - an asteroid belt within the constellation of Solium Daemon - and that has become the species' home.
Shroomans have a natural telepathic ability. They cannot communicate with other species outside their own, but if two Shroomans meet, they can exchange mental signatures and can stay in contact across lightyears, acting like cellphones or walkie-talkies. Because of this and their inherit adaptability for space travel, Shroomans can be seen on almost every spaceship and space station acting as emergency communication beacons and emergency radios for help. On some planets, Shroomans are used in place of telephones, being paid to literally sit around and wait for calls from a neighboring Shrooman.
Shroomans have a deaccelerated metabolism. A hearty breakfast for a human, giving them enough energy to make it to lunch time, can be a big enough meal to make it to next month for a Shrooman. Shroomans can go long stretches of time with very little food.
Shroomans reproduce asexually. They don't have notions of gender and will use whatever pronouns whatever group they're apart of is comfortable with. They can, however, enjoy sex and have minor shapeshifting abilities to give themselves the necessary parts needed, having full control of their own biology and genes to some extent. Any physical traits, such as bigger hips and tall height, are due to residual traits absorbed through physical contact, a byproduct of their origins of using creatures that reproduce sexually for their biological base.
When Shroomans reproduce, they release clouds of spores. If they're capable, the spores will eventually cultivate into Shroomans. These spores will house a combination of all the genes absorbed by the Shrooman, both their own, some gained from being in contact with other creatures. It's possible for Shroomans to create genetic clones of themselves, and some might only create spores that create biological clones of themselves while most will just let spores fly without any care of what traits contain what.
Shroomans will try to do this near Shrooman settlements; it's common for Shroomans to produce spores and leave. Shroomans don't have ideals of family, but Shrooman settlements have no qualms taking in newborn Shroomans. Though, it's not uncommon for Shroomans to give off their spores as a last ditch effort to continue their legacy and die unceremoniously, leaving their newborns to fend for themselves with little hope of survival.
Shroomans have a heightened potential for psychic abilities due to naturally having a limited ability of telepathy.
