Gods, feels like its been ages since I last did one of these. Time really slowed down after I graduated. It's a big one though.
I'm moving house next month so I'm gonna focus on commissions again for a bit. Especially cuz I quit my (hell) job at McDonalds
Animated Blitzwing
So I found a nearby vintage shop (turns out they were the guys who sold me Thundertron a few months back), and I thought I'd check them out. This version of Blitzwing has always stood out to me for actually, yknow, getting character development, but its a good figure too, managing to balance all three modes in a way that even the Legacy figure didn't. Still, he shows some signs of aging, what with the lack of waist, ankles, and wrists, and the generally weird articulation.
Legacy Soundblaster
Just a little something before I saw Rise of the Beasts. He's a neat little figure but I'm not sure he's as good as the fandom made out. Gives me a little something to carry around in my pockets though lol. Rise of the Beasts is a great movie by the way, go watch it.
Legends Slipstream
Good lord this figure was a nightmare to get. Had to use Buyee to get her imported from Japan - cost like 3x more than the usual figure of that size, but worth it tbh. Slipstream is a very cool character and its annoying af that we never got a proper western release of her, outside of kids stuff. She is a bit dainty though, I'm paranoid af I'm gonna break her.
Studio Series War for Cybertron Optimus Prime
Wild they're doing these designs again, considering according to recent reports the games are lost somewhere in Activision's file system with no prospects of re-release. The other SSWFC stuff looks kinda mediocre, but this one is great. He's very chunky and heavy-set, and the axe really adds to his design.
D&D Dicelings Owlbear
Another pre-RoTB viewing buy (I saw it twice). I don't know my D&D but I like Owls, I like Bears, and I like silly little figures that turn into things. The D20 form is completely impractical, but just in concept its a neat little thing to have yknow?
Studio Series Age of Extinction Grimlock
So they re-released this guy from 2018, and he's a hefty bastard. He's a big chungus with heavy ass joints, and the dry-brushing looks fantastic. His hips are a bit weird though, and his dino mode is still a bit disproportionate. Still, its a massive upgrade from the 2014 figure. Dear GOD that one was bad lmao
Robots in Disguise (2001) Megatron
This is a landmark figure in TF history, and I found him for a decent price on ebay! What makes this guy unique is the sheer amount of forms he can have; he transforms into ELEVEN different things - Robot, Dragon, Jet, Car, Bat, Flying Hand (?), Gryphon, Pteranodon, Boat, Mammoth, and Ostrich. A lot of them are kinda janky but hes so fun to mess about with.
Legacy Axlegrease
So this is an entirely new character, and I love myself some unconventional female characters. She reminds me a lot of Animated Lockdown in a very good way, and the colours really make her pop. Looks like she's gonna be the leg of a combiner team too - they're gonna be a big dinosaur!
Studio Series Age of Extinction Galvatron
This guy looks kinda jank but to be honest I don't see how else they could've designed him. Seems like they took a lot of notes from the Unique Toys figure, as both transform by like, turning inside out. I got him super cheap, for whatever reason the box being a little roughed up took like £20 off the price tag.
Prime Ultimate Predaking
Funny story - back in the day I got the smaller Voyager Predaking, only to find this one discounted an hour later. Aaand I didn't have the money because I was like 10. This one is so much better than the Voyager, in large part because he doesn't rely on rubber parts everywhere. Still bothered by the lack of articulation in his dragon mode though, since it's all engineered around a gear-activated gimmick.
Last Knight Barricade
I love the evergreen Barricade design, but they never made a decent figure of it. Still, its based somewhat on this one and close enough. They really exaggerate the bad cop angle with this design - as well as the "To Punish and Enslave" deco the older design has, he also has "To Protect and Serve" engraved onto his knuckledusters. Brutal AF. He's got a scary amount of clear plastic though, I'm half expecting him to break some day.
Studio Series Rise of the Beasts Optimus Prime
So I have the mainline RoTB Optimus Prime but by sheer chance I found this one in-store - a miracle, considering I've seen people online have no luck. He is much better than the mainline, but I really do feel like he could've benefitted from reworked legs. I'm gonna get the upgrade kit when it drops.
Legacy Armada Megatron
So I rewatched Armada just in time for Legacy to remake much of the cast. This figure is a very faithful update to the original, but I do miss all the old gimmicks or the minicon. Still, the upgrades to the articulation really help.
Legacy Armada Optimus Prime
Similar to Megatron, this is a very faithful update, although the super mode gets most of it, since the core bot aged pretty gracefully. It seems he's still compatible with the original Overlord, and I have both him and the original Prime's Minicon, so I gotta see how they work.
