Technically! It's both the layered realm of Cycle 10 and Cycle 10.5! Just to clear up any confusion when I speak of "Realms" in the setting of Skin to Scales. The universe that the main character's live in is completely layered on top of one another. Some dimensions being able to connect to other dimensions of course. Different planes of existence all in one universe as the Sea of Souls acts as a bedrock and foundation which also connects to the greater multiverse outside of Cycle 10
With that being said, it's time to give a quick rundown and abridged version of all of these realms in the setting. (Also, a heads up, since most of these things where I reference "you can read up more on it here", is usually sorted on my Deviantart Page.)
Machine Heaven: A place that is said where all machines go to rest, The Great Construct can be found here. Building their dimension and making sure everything is working properly in the realm. They are the Maintenace crew and are called in if there are any "tears" in the realm that need fixing.
The Gulch: A realm made entirely of biological materials and is known to look like a gigantic stomach. Beating hearts, eyeless goats that grow thick layers of skin, and gigantic pools of digestive acids. This place is known to be one of the only solid "afterlives" of the Cycle as Ballos is the most worshipped and well-known Pillar of Creation. Creating an entire realm for her worshippers to cultivate and flourish even after death.
Outer Stars: Also known as the "Greater Realm" as it's where most of the population of Cycle 10 comes from. Let it be humans, plantarans, other various aliens, there's billions of planets out there in the great vastness of space. Unfortunately, most of the realm has no idea even of the other planes of existence and continue to go along their merry lives blissfully unaware that gods are among them, or that alternate realities even exist outside of their own.
Materia: This is where most of the happenings take place in the setting- at least for the main cast of characters. A birthplace of Dragons, Kobolds, Goblins, and is the realm of the gods, a beautiful mesh of biomes on a flat surface where the sun is completely artificial and rises from the center. It is the remnants of what's left of Cycle 9 after a great destructive event took place and is highly sought after for its extremely rich resources and bountiful flow of magic. Fortunately, you can read more about it here: The Universal Anomaly Known As Planet Materia
Hell: 85% of Hell is flooded by great oceans and the rest of it is either lush and dangerous underground forests or great magma lakes that cover the expanse. It is a protective wall and layer filled with creatures of the Flexile Family (mostly demons, imps and devils) and is one of the most dangerous places in the cycle/universe. Most creatures can be several hundred feet tall and the great kingdoms that littered the underground are now ruins. This place can be entered through the Outer Stars through portals or diving deep under the Ocean of Materia.
Void: The "Dumping Grounds" of the Gods, The voidlings make their home here as it's filled with random "Junk Data" that serve no use for the Pillars. Thrown away ideas and other various materials from the creation process of Cycle 10 can be found here. A place that constantly breaks down and reconstructs itself as it leaks into the greater realm. More info can be found here: Monsters of Skin to Scales: Voidlings
Forgiven: A realm where wild and even defeated faceless go as it is a realm created specifically by Thomza. Meant to be a pseudo-afterlife for Faceless and the souls completely destroyed and reconstructed by Maxwell. A joke is that it's the "retirement home" as not only do faceless rest here, but many long-forgotten gods, heroes, and other people of importance. Even if much older, you can find more information on it here: Thomza's Journal: Faceless Realm
Sea of Souls: As stated before it's the very foundation of Cycle 10 and connects this universe and many others to each other. It is where souls of no patron god flow into, and as well as various animals and other various sentient life. The stream was connected after a "overflow of energy" caused an infection to grow in the lifeblood of Cycle 9. Although with this connection given, new souls flow into the realm, and old souls flow out, eventually all merging together into a stream. Almost as if it was the veins of the entire greater multiverse.
...and with that! That concludes the abridged version... Do expect to see more however in the future and further explanation of these realms (some already exist on my page), and... Yeah- that's about it- have a good one everybody! (Oh right and Freya is in the image here too lmfao, I'd like to imagine this is on a church or cathedral wall somewhere and she's just staring up at it and thinking)
Disclaimer and Copyright: These characters involved, and the artwork belongs to me, TwistedHensley. The Skin to Scales universe also belongs to me there, TwistedHensley... You get the drill. I want to point out that this is an Epic Dark Fantasy setting with a lot of mythological and religious tones and that there is no real-life connection to any of these events, religions, characters and it is fully, grounded, in fantasy. There is no copyright infringement also intended to other forms of media as Skin to Scales is meant to be its own thing and something I've been working on for a very long time. This is the same setting where faith is a massive part of the magic system.
