Dario "Redmane": Heroically Oblivious
Age: Unknown, assumed early-mid 20's
Occupation: Adventurer/Proudblade Knight
Origins: Felixian Aristocracy
Specialty: Blunt weapons, tracking & navigation
Dario comes from a long line of Proudblade Knights, elite advance guard of the Felix royalty. He means well but sometimes comes off pompous among other things. Was given "Redmane" as an initiate, a nickname he had gotten when the armorer noticed his hair turned from light brown to a deep crimson when he touched dragonrose. A fairly common mineral in the nearby mountains, but other than being a versatile resource and export highly valued by jewelers and smithies, there were no known magical properties of the shiny red stone. Dario's cosmetic reaction briefly raised some interest with the court mystics but after extensive testing that left him nearly bald from all the samples; it was suggested to be some kind of rare mild allergic reaction manifesting. Translation: they had no idea but it didn't seem dangerous.
Once a skilled soldier with a solemn disposition; some changes were noticed in his demeanor after the Proudblades foiled an attempt to hex the king and Dario was hit with the deflected spell, immediately falling into a coma.
After weeks of failed attempts to revive him through natural and mystical means, the royal court was looking at grim possibilities when Dario awoke on his own as if from a midday nap with a spotty memory of what had happened. The changes were small at first but gradually became more noticeable. No longer the almost stoic soldier, he was almost boisterous like some overeager trainee in the ranks. He was also getting clumsy with sporadic strokes of unbelievable luck, narrowly evading disaster while remaining enviably clueless. The more his chaotic dice roll of good fortune made even his most ridiculous mistakes work out in his favor, the more he believed absolutely nothing could ever turn out badly where he was involved, even with his screw ups glaring him right in the face. The more he was blessed by whatever rabid daemon of chaos & fortune, the more his ego inflated, giving plenty of room for a target on his back.
The king was certain that the hex meant for him was to blame for turning Dario into the fumbling fool of Felix and refused to punish Dario for his faithful service. When the property and personal damage to the capital city was too much to ignore, in lieu of simply tossing him out to whatever fate had in store, the king sent Dario to a border territory that was fairly peaceful other than occasional petty crime and domestic squabbling. If he had less to do, he couldn't cause as much trouble and still feel useful. Dario was thrilled to carry the Felixian banner to the border territories and serve as an extension of all things that made his homeland great.
Though he would soon grow restless and look to expand his horizons and opportunities. A (glorified) border sheriff is an honorable station, but as a true hero he has a duty to the people of Felix, the Allied Sovereigns, the world for that matter, to seek out where wickedness reigns unchecked and banish it to the pit of its birth.
