I did a guest strip for
Bill Beagle's strip Marco and Marty (http://marcoandmarty.tumblr.com).
kinda surprised that he used it, because I cannot refrain from being a colossal jerkass even when I enjoy a comic. XP MArco and Marty is a good strip, you should totally check it out if you haven't already. Though, you have to admit, it's pretty gay. As in homosexual. Freshmen may object.
I'm only a jerk because I am powered by nerd rage. But, deep down, it's because I'm afraid to love.

I read Catcher in the Rye when I was in high-school..
.. Was I the only one that got a creepy pedo vibe from that book? Also 200 pages of some drunkard racist pessimistic droning on and on about.. something. Does this for the entire book until the very last page he's like "Welp I gotta have hope for the future!" as he walks into the sunset like nothing happened. That's the only parts I remember other than him talking about (or at least relating to) a cumshot.
Granted, it's been ten-something years since I've read this book. I remember drawing the rye fields with children in it and some guy with a literal fishing net back then to kiss up to the teacher, but it's lost to the ages.

No, you've pretty much got it right. I read it in high school and remember benig really unimpressed with it. I suppose it was pretty subverive back when it was published in 1951, just because there were fewer books back then that purported to speak about the youth condition. Also it contained swearing, which I guess made people go WOW THIS BOOK IS TOTALLY EDGY AND IN YOUR FACE. When I read it, I just got annoyed with how meandering and pointless the whole thing was. Also, I didn't really find the existential angst of a rich white kid with no problems all that gripping.
