Another update on a side project based on the theme of an alien bounty hunter. Normally WIPs are the kind of things I run by just the commissioner - so it's kinda neat to be publishing these publicly, if on the down low.
After coming back to this one many months later I realized there were a BUNCH of changes I wanted to make. Here were all the notes I made for myself on this version:
0:00 – Opening scene is way too busy. I liked the idea of this being a very clunky sounding ship. Lots of heavy metal knobs and the sound of the chassis rattling. But the mix is just too dense it sounds mostly like an aircon on full blast. Also unsure if I want to start with a spaceship flyby to set the scene or if I can just start in the cockpit. Maybe a short bar of music to set the mood?
0:15 – Alien voice is cool but a little bit too processed. It’s also a bit too stereo sounding? I need to pull back on the effects and dial in the EQ more so that he has the same vibe, but is a lot more clear.
0:43 – The ship landing is the one thing I am 100% happy with. The metal thunk is exactly the well-worn ship vibe I wanted and I love the dust and metal cooling. Things quiet down but there’s still all this lovely texture.
1:12 – I’ve hired VoiceVixxen and LewdZaxk as alien voice actors and they did a great job – but I’ve still got to properly use their work here. There’s way too much reverb on everything. I want it to sound busy sure, but we wanna be able to hear things distinctly.
1:29 – The squeezing into the booth should be almost a gag sound. Make it shorter and stand out more.
1:50 – Waaay too much various sounds here. Let this be a quieter scene before all hell breaks lose again.
So with all that in mind, listen to how the next version came out: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57309104/

Aside from having two tails I like leaving that ambiguous and up to the imagination. I'm def inspired by Edgar from MIB in that I think he probably has some insect type sounds in his movements and a bit slosh. But also I like that I've given him some gear and a bit of a cowboy sound to his step, so he's probably wearing some kind of gear too. So yeah enough that he has a consistent vibe, but not enough to get a solid picture of what he looks like.
