Ran across this curious feline character in Zoo Funnies which somehow I haven't moved on from yet. This panel's a copy from page 24 of https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=18092 and the title panel of 'The Jackpot'. I'm curious why the cat's drawn with mitten-paws, but like the look for obvious reasons.
Incidentally, this issue establishes this mitten-pawed cat as female. That stands out --- how often do you see a lead animal character who's female and who doesn't have, like, a bow or long eyelashes or other tertiary sexual characteristics? And, for that matter, in a story where her being female doesn't drive the jokes? And yet another issue of Zoo Funnies with Nip the Cat --- https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=59353 page 26 --- is just as clear that Nip's male. I'm sure this reflects only that the people making these books were not paying attention to continuity and we're lucky the character looks about the same one book to the next. But if you want to put Nip up on the list of genderfluid cat comic stars I'm not going to protest.
