Good news! You know that part of your brain that can't remember your online banking password, but maintains a comprehensive index of lyrics to inane pop songs you don't even like? Well, it's now mildly less useless...!

I can see Vayryn caching stuff around to make it easier to reach, and then completely forgetting about it. Just finding it later as a pleasant (or not-so-pleasant, depending on how long it's been) surprise.
Then again, yinglet biology... Smell and taste aren't as strong, and digestion and immunity are wild, so it'd have to be really off to not be edible anymore. Not that she'd be happy eating trash, or having it pointed out that she totally could without ill effects... ^_^;;

I'd say it deepens on whether they're alone, or whether they've got an Enclave.
Alone, they probably squirrel things around all over (much to the dismay of any humans who keep finding bits of half-eaten fish). And think he's super smart for coming up with the idea. "Why are you so mad? Well, if you're not gonna eat it, give it back, zhen! It's mine anyway!"
In an Enclave, they've got a storehouse with someone to be in charge of it and make sure everyone gets a fair share. They're very communal, and don't seem to really have much interest in keeping their own supply of things (but will hold on to sentimental items/personal equipment). At least that's my impression.
