Placing the box in his hands to the side, Juan knelt on his hands and knees and shifted other boxes and crates out of the way to expose the item that had caught the light and his interest.
Juan knew the prize would be great, but he wasn’t expecting to find a stunning oil lamp of Middle-Eastern origin. Lifting it from its crate and wiping the thick coat of dust from its surface, the golden shimmer shone even brighter, Juan realising he was holding a pure gold lamp.
Turning it over, he admired its heft and the craftsmanship, wondering what the ancient texts engraved into its surface could be saying in a language he didn’t understand. Despite the general chill in the attic, the lamp itself felt slightly warm, as if it had been used recently.
