Zig-Zag Spider
by A. Griffin
I'm a zig-zag spider, I'm a good little boy.
My big fancy web means less bugs to annoy.
Your veggie garden,
and me,
can start a long friendship,
I'll keep the insects after your food
in long term suspension.
I weaved a lightning-bolt
in my net to get your attention -
because mammals aren't on my menu,
so don't be offended.
I worked real hard on
my bug-catching scheme,
so don't be a klutz
and mess up my nutritional means.
I'll stay out of your way,
'cause you're a big scary creature.
If we both succeed,
our full stomachs
will be a double-feature.
I know you look surprised
when I'm the one you see,
but your garden needs me,
just like it needs worms and bees.
So I'll be quiet for you,
and just
let you plant your food,
and when the insects show up,
I'll catch em' all for you.
Adieu!
One day after living in a house over 20 years, an orb weaver spider moved into our front yard garden!
We never saw or heard of such a spider before, and their fancy web more than got our attention.
More of their distinctive webs began to appear, and we came to call these fellows "zig-zag spiders", and wouldn't realize till years later that this is actually a widespread common parlance name for them!
Also, Furaffinity doesn't have "spider" under the species dropdown menu. Come on, really?
