30"x40" oils on canvas
This is a painting based off an old photograph of my great-grandmother, beside a Jaguar XK120 which belonged to my great-grandfather. I learned that the photograph was taken in Spain, where my great-grandfather worked over a period of years.
I took a photograph of the painting outdoors, in sunny conditions, with indirect sunlight and no flash. The colors are fairly accurate.

I do enjoy drawing/painting cars =) ... I need 1 or more good refs to work from, though.
As far as how long it took to complete - I'm afraid I didn't take very good records of that - but I worked on it through November and December in the evenings, off and on with the "Sunset at Low Tide" painting.
I guess it probably took somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-70 hours all told.

Just. WOW.
Been keeping an eye on this as you posted updates, each time it became more and more beautiful...
Now it just looks fantastic beyond words. Goodness knows how much better it must look in real life not the photo.
Well done on it, you should most definitely be proud of it!

This piece is the complete deal. Very much amazingly detailed. Realistic, life like, the whole 9. A fitting tribute.
To comment on the car, one of the best illustrations of a vintage car I've seen in a many many years. Rivals the art on the walls at some private auto collections I've visited in SoCal. A+

I nearly skipped over this because I thought it was a photo, but then I caught your name underneath the submission . This is amazing... I notice you didn't get as detailed as I've seen you get before, though. Were you going for that classic 50s poster painting style? That's what it reminds me of:)
I think part of the detail issue is that the source photo I was working from was super old and really super low-res. So I had to invent a lot of details that couldn't be seen, particularly in the dark areas.
Also I don't think I can get the precise detail with oils on canvas like I can with acrylics on illustration board - the consistency of the paint and the drying time impede those efforts somewhat. But on the upside, it looks more painterly.

Wow! Stumbled across this by accident!
Fantastic work as usual! You've given the jag some curvier lines than it has, but it looks perfect like that!
Your Great grandfather must have been very proud to have an XK120 from NEW!
Seen as It's left hand drive I'm assuming it was a US export model - Even rarer!
Is the car still in your family? My grandfather's old Alvis still is, not running though, maybe one day.
You mentioned you enjoyed drawing cars, any kind in particular?
