A bit of backstory: Sebastian is a monk from the Aric Monastery, a place in the mountains where they train monks to defend and help people. Sebastian tries his best to follow the methods of the monks and pass the teachings to others, he puts a lot of work into it. Seb earned the title of Second Heart, a person who trains the monks and teaches them the values of life. It's a special honor for anyone among the Aric Monks, however, Sebastian wanted something different for himself. He wanted a real challenge that could change lives or better them.

Seb set out on a small journey around the Ashfall Kingdom, he wanted to see how people live in the kingdom. During his travels, he comes across a group of mercenaries who were causing problems for the pair of waitresses. He decides to try and stop the people from causing trouble, but it turns into a fight because of how drunk they were. Seb manages to fight off a few of them but gets overwhelmed. Luckily, Rath comes in to help out. Rath happens to be around on business about bandits posing to be mercenaries to get free drinks at the taverns in the local town. Thanks to Rath, both him and Seb are able to defeat and capture the fake mercenaries.

Rath introduces himself as the prince of the land and is impressed with Sebastian's fighting skills. He offers Rath to be a retainer to Rath and a personal advisor, he could see Seb being someone he can depend on. Sebastian at first didn't like the idea of ending his travels to work for someone like a prince, but he thought about what an advisor could do. It would allow him to help make the kingdom better and ensure that people can be safe, it wouldn't be an easy task, but he would have a unique challenge that can help lives. With that in mind, Sebastian counters he will be a retainer and advisor if Rath is willing to assist him in helping the people's lives improve and possibly have the Aric Monks set up temples within Ashfall. Rath happily agrees and even mentions that even though he is a prince right now, he still has a say in what happens in the kingdom thanks to his father.

It's after this encounter that Sebastian becomes the retainer to Rath and his advisor. They work together to protect people and learn about their lives and how to improve them. Sebastian often scolds Rath when he is inconsiderate or makes silly mistakes, and in turn, Rath listens and improves on his practice of being a future king. Of course, Sebastian has his hands full when Owen is around. Owen tends to get into trouble and is a massive horndog. However, Sebastian trusts Owen to always protect Rath and the people of Ashfall. Regardless of his troublemaker ways.
