I wanted to share a bit of this little side project I've been working on for a few weeks, which is to add my original characters and overall more diverse furry characters to the game 'Barotrauma'. It's a game that is a 2D submarine crew simulator in a scifi space setting. Fending off crazy cosmic sea monsters, cruising through treacherous regions, diving outside for missions, and managing your submarine systems are all part of the experience, and entirely co-op! But of course, it is also very easy to mod, which is how this came to be.
Using the 'avvos starfox' mod as a base, its able to replace all humans in the game with animal characters that include tail physics. And further swapping certain character bases and designs with my own, I've been able to add my owned characters Desteni, Valerie, and Brooke to be playable in the game, as well as a base for rodents like Roxie, and Horses. I've been wanting to make more as well for bases like Otters, Deers, and others that I may think of doing.
I've also redesigned the diving mask for a more universal-fitting one for all the snoots and muzzles that can fit it, along with goggles and a design that can better show the characters' faces.
Aaaaand of course, if you know me, you know I may tend to have a thing for certain uniform types, so naturally I replaced most of the default clothing pieces with role color-coordinated naval dress uniforms for my crew.
Audio wise, I've swapped a few of the sound files for the drowning ones for some sounds that I've stitched from other video sources for a more interesting event trigger. Replacing certain dialogue text files also made it to where the NPCs will have more bubbly/gurgled onomatopoeia.
Being the game that it is, lots of monster battles, submarine fights, and reckless maintenance can damage your ship's integrity quite extensively, and can send you sinking further down into the depths. So LOTS of water flooding gets involved almost all the time in your sub, and having to sometimes venture outside to swim and mine resources or explore wrecks/ruins means that this game has quite the amount of drowning and suffocation risks with it. And from playing the game for a while now solo with a 'not-so-perfect-at-the-moment-AI' crew, a bit of gurgles have been had so far... >///>
So yeah! Just a little thing I've been doing on and off lately purely for self-indulgence and a 'having your OC in a game' neatness to it. If anyone's really interested in such a thing and have the game, I may want to do custom assets for things like clothing/item swaps or characters for others in the future.

Oh, yeah, I've given this game a few shots before, but it seemed to me like you basically needed friends to get much accomplished in it. Still, very interesting title. Not sure how it never occurred to me that it could be used for this kind of self-indulgence, honestly; it seems pretty obvious in retrospect...
As a personal opinion, while there IS the more enjoyable social aspect about it in the multiplayer mode, there is still quite the entertaining gameplay of it all from playing it solo. I've beaten the campaign as is, and while there are certain things that the bots aren't always best at, they can sometimes be a bit more efficient than people at times, albeit the occasional technical hiccup here and there with them. But yeah, its doable if given the chance and if it seems worth it to go through with.
