Aloe Vera to the rescue!
Vacationing in Thailand once, I had gotten a slight sunburn (I only ever get sunburns) I had a massage scheduled the same day. The masseuse just took a whole big piece of Aloe Vera plant, scooped out a big chunk and drowned my back in it. The redness was gone the next day. Very comfortable and effective!

That's the point of this comic. Phillip is too anxious to simply ask and Clover is not aware of the extent of his doubts. So she is acting considerate and don't pressure him.
What would you fricking prefer to see? Her accusing him of acting suspicious, being a bad boyfriend and dumping him?

I don't know what you've gone through to read this hard into a story, but if it is such a frustrating read for you, I suggest finding other media to consume. Both Clover and Phillip are sweet, albeit flawed characters who's learning throughout the story. My perception of the comic's message is that good communication is important, even when it's hard. It's something we all have to learn from somwhere!
