Talent shows are still a thing? I think my highschool might have had only two or three in the entire 6 years I was there and hardly anybody entered OR attended (even MY generation had become never-leave-the-house-unless-necessary gamers.) The only performance I can actually remember was a contortionist kid who could stick his index fingers together in one of those novelty paper finger-traps and then contort his whole body through his outstretched arms so that his "bound" hands switched between being behind his back and in front of his chest.
