King Richter Salvo was a proud creature. A hybrid offspring from the folves and the dragons, and given a blessing of magic unlike any other. His noble behavior was looked upon by his fellow citizens, but there was one thing he loved to do more than anything.
Standing at an impressive twelve feet tall to the shoulder, on some days it wasn’t enough to the massive red folfgon. Having the power to grow at will made many days quite fun for him. More often than not he’d start his morning by stretching while also growing bigger at the same time, and soon dwarfing his village with his sheer size. Despite this, he was still very responsible and made sure to not cause any harm to his village below, underneath his ever growing paws.
The day our tale begins started like any other day. Rich awoke from his good night’s rest and stretched to get himself moving and ready for the day. The sun shone in through the windows as Rich stepped out onto the balcony to take in the fresh air.
“Ahh…beautiful weather…perfect for a big stroll!”
Rich hummed to himself as he made his way back inside. He looked at the windows and began to stretch again. He began to glow as he readied another spell to steadily grow on his way out of the castle.
Suddenly, Rich felt a sharp jolt as his glow flashed brighter, but instead of the red light as he hoped, it was a magnificent violet. When the light faded, Rich felt dizzy, but soon got back to his feet.
When he took another step however, he watched as his paw started to get smaller in front of him. He felt tingling all throughout his body as his tail, wings, and other paws all got smaller to match. He was beginning to shrink!
Rich watched in shock and fear as the world around him began to grow instead of him! Smaller and smaller he shrank, from twelve feet to only six. Down to three. One. Six inches…
The shrinking finally came to a stop, but now poor Richter was only a mere three inches tall. He had shrunk so small that he was not much bigger than the paws of his fellow citizens…
Rich attempted to cast his magic again to grow back to normal, but to no avail. He was stuck at this minuscule size, unless he found another way to reverse it. But his castle was now a massive temple to him, with furniture dozens of times taller than him. If he wanted to grow back to his normal size, he was going to have to embark on his biggest adventure yet.
Rich spread his wings and took to the air. While incredibly small, he could still fly very well. He climbed back on top of his bed and began to make it tidy after his rest the night before. While heavy, he was able to move his blankets so he could sleep again once night fell again.
As he turned to leave he realized something. How would he leave his bedroom? At the size he was, the door would be far too heavy to move, and the gap between the door and the floor likely would be too small for him to squeeze through.
“Oh, no. Am I stuck here?” He began to worry that he was trapped in his own bedroom because he was too small to open the door.
He landed back down on the floor and looked at the gap. It was only a couple inches tall, but Rich still lowered his head. If he crouched low enough he may be able to squeeze through he crawled as low as he could and could barely fit, but with enough finesse he finally made his way under the door and out into the hallway. He watched as one of his fellow dragons stood several times higher than him, and then realized something else.
He was getting hungry. The last time he ate a proper meal was the banquet the night before, and now that he had shrunk so much, he needed only a small sample of food to be a meal to him.
After following another dragon and squeezing under another couple of doors, he finally made his way into the banquet hall. They had prepared a hearty breakfast for their king, but would it all go to waste?
“Hey!” Richter called out for the folf setting the table. “I’m here!”
“Oh my goodness!” The folf was shocked to see her king so small. “What happened, King Richter?”
Rich began to blush. “I uh…tried to grow bigger again, and it seems to have backfired…and I shrank instead…”
“Oh, well may as well take advantage of it while you can. This meal we prepared for you should feed you for at least this week! And I doubt you’ll find a way to grow back on an empty stomach, so best eat while you’re here.”
The folf left Richter to his monumental meal. Rich delved into all of it, and by the time he was full, had barely consumed any of it. As tempted as he was to eat more of this delicious meal, he now needed to focus. He needed to find a way to grow back to his normal size.
If magic didn’t work to help reverse the effects of shrinking, then certainly a potion would be the next best option. But at the size he was, there was no way Rich would even be able to tip over the bottle unless it was round, let alone uncork it so he could actually sip the elixir.
This meant his next next best solution was to find the main ingredients used to make the potion and their effects. He did know that his gardener cultivated a special type of flower, who’s pollen and petals were used to help create growth potions and their variations, so that must be where he needed to go.
So after making his way through the colossal castle, shimmying under every door on the way, Rich finally saw daylight again as he entered his castle’s courtyard. A magnificent garden, even a spectacle for someone normal sized. But having shrunk to only a few inches tall, the garden looked like a massive jungle to the tiny folfgon.
Rich took to the skies again and flew up to where he could see the whole garden. Several feet in the air wasn’t a great place to look for only one kind of flower, especially since everything had grown so much larger. But despite this hurdle, Rich still spotted the flower he was looking for.
Richter flew down to the bed they were in and began to climb into the petals of one of them. However, even after this, it still wouldn’t make him grow. He then remembered that there was one thing that his village’s potion master used in order to specifically make growth potions functional.
Strawberries. The juice from a strawberry was needed to make a growth potion work. The pollen from the flower itself wouldn’t be enough, but when mixed with strawberry juice then it has been shown to cause growth upon contact with scales or fur. This meant that Rich needed to find the strawberries and bring one all the way back here to finally grow back.
There was just one problem. From his lookout point earlier, Rich couldn’t see any of the fruits unless they were on trees. This meant if he wanted to find the strawberries, he needed to search on foot.
He did know the general vicinity to where all of the berries were grown, so he flew over there and set foot in the jungle that was the berry patch.
“Being tiny makes things so difficult, but weirdly fun…” Richter was conflicted. He wasn’t sure if he enjoyed this little adventure or not. Yes it was unexpected, but at the same time, he was secretly having fun, aside from slight embarrassment.
After making his way through the bushes for what seemed like an hour, he finally found them. Rich had reached the strawberry patch. After struggling to pick one, he grabbed the massive strawberry and took to the air with it. It was certainly heavy, but Rich still mustered enough strength to carry the enormous fruit.
Richter made his way back to the flowers, and sat inside the flower again, this time biting into the strawberry. As the juice flowed out, it mixed with the pollen, which then flowed onto Rich.
Soon he noticed the effects taking place as Rich’s tail grew in size, and soon his wings to match. He stepped back into the path and watched the world shrink around him. Three feet. Six feet. Twelve feet. He had returned to his normal size once again.
Rich took a step out of his courtyard as he felt himself grow beyond his normal size. Fifteen feet tall, he crouched down and began to stretch again.
He had finally gained control of his powers again, as he began to grow bigger, and bigger, and BIGGER! Thirty feet, fifty feet, one hundred feet, soon dwarfing his very castle. He sat down and watched his village shrink in front of him, wagging his fluffy tail around.
He began to stroll around the land, each step taking him several dozen meters at a time. He was enjoying his time as a macro once more. But his fun was soon brought to a screeching halt as he realized something.
He was late for his teaching session…
