We're now up to chapter 11 of my Watership Down fanfic. Not all that long to go now.
The Owsla are shocked by a visitation from the past. This is the chapter I think is probably the most gripping of any I wrote in this story. It's important to remember, perhaps even more so than for the rest of the tale, that the characters are very much based on those in the novel. The TV series in particular would be misleading here...

Thank you again! *hugs* Honestly, if I had to pick one chapter from this story that I was the most satisfied with having written, it would be this one
Your gran certainly had some interesting sayings. =;) This chapter was so unremittingly dark when I first wrote it that I added in the bob-stones scene deliberately just to break it up a little. Vernal is an absolutely brutal character in my mind, and I think it's quite likely that eventually he'd have gone strange in the head like this. I suppose in another type of story this could have been the climactic battle.
I'm glad you thought the rain was well judged. As you say, it is always tricky, and I suppose making everything happen in full sunshine would have been an interesting twist... but the storm was supposed to be reminiscent of the one that occurs when Bigwig is getting Blackavar and the does out of Efrafa -- the mix of that weather and Kehaar's presence probably disconcerts Vervain just enough for the Watership rabbits to get firmly on top of the battle.
