Tread lightly, redtail.
A belated happy birthday to AlectorFencer. The occasion was over a week ago, but I faced a bit of an... obstruction.
Those familiar with the source material have probably noticed that the critters, including Myre herself, are off-model. I don't have the skillset nor artistic vision to properly convey the sheer desolate majesty of Yria, but what I can convey is the unique image of how I (mis)remember first seeing the mighty miyut, and the overwhelming feeling at it: Fear.
On a tiny phone screen in a Summer several years ago, browsing in a pause while preparing for a friend's wedding and only catching a passing glance, to my eyes the miyut were unrecogniseable as a species of animals. They were a wall of malicious life, flesh and stone aggregated into lopsided monstrosity, with abnormal pillary gait and balancing creations worthy of Bruegel, wreathed in filth and rust and soot, the black smoke of furnaces and steam of colossi's breath.
And though I have had a better look since, that first impression lingers.
An artist can convey so many more images than those she puts to paper.
