Chapter 2
The drive was pretty long, taking almost two hours. Once they finally pulled into the parking lot at the camp’s building, all of the young furs had fallen asleep. “We’re here! Rise and shine!” called out Tart, causing them all to wake up with a start. Misty looked out the window to see a small building made of yellow bricks. It had a playground on one side and a rainbow banner at the front that read “Welcome to Camp Relax Out!” They all climbed out of the van and followed Tart into the building.
The entrance of the building was a small room with a round rug in the centre with cushions around its edge. A turquoise wolf was already sitting there, and she smiled as they all walked in. “Welcome!” she said. “Take a seat in the circle and we can go over introductions.”
Tart sat down next to the wolf, and the other all filled into spots around the circle. Misty nervously took a place between the pink horse and the white duck. “Why don’t we start with names?” said the wolf. “I’m Winter, and I’m sure you’ve all already met Tart.”
Winter looked over at the black tuxedo cat that had sat next her. “Why don’t you go next and then we can keep going around the circle.”
“I’m Oberon.” said the cat nervously, looking next to him at the red-orange fox. “I’m Red!” said the fox enthusiastically. “I’m Bubbles” said the white duck next, turning to look at Misty. “I’m Misty.” Misty said in a timid voice, looking down at the floor. “And I’m Tilly!” said the pink horse who was gently rocking back and forth out of excitement.
“Excellent! It’s great to meet you all.” said Winter, clapping her paws together. “I think it would be easiest if we get started by splinting you off into two groups. Red, Oberon, Bubbles, you follow Tart. Misty and Tilly, you two come with me.”
Misty got up, following Winter and Tilly through the door at the back of the room. “We’ll take a left here and go through the first door there.” said Winter, while Tart led his group through a door to the right. Misty followed tentatively, unsure of what to expect.
They stepped through the door into a small room with white walls and a white floor. There were three small chairs along one wall and a wide but fairly short cabinet on the other side. The cabinet seemed to have some sort of thin pillow on top and two trash cans next to it. Winter led Misty and Tilly over to the chairs and handed them each a clipboard and a purple crayon. “I want you to look through these papers and answer to the best of your abilities,” said Winter. “Don’t worry, it’s not a test. It’s just to help us get to know you a little better.”
Misty looked down at the first page. At the top of the page it said “Which face best describes how you feel right now?” with a bunch of faces underneath. She circled the one that looked nervous and turned to the next page. There were a series of 10 pages, each asking a simple question about how she felt now, how she felt in school, and how she felt throughout her life. Misty did her best to answer honestly, and then looked up at Winter.
“All done?” Winter asked. Misty nodded. While she had been working, Winter had been looking through some papers and rummaging through some things in the cabinet.
“I’m done too!” said Tilly.
“Perfect!” said Winter, coming over to collect the clipboards.
“Um… Winter?” asked Misty nervously. “What’s in the cabinet?”
“That’s a good question Misty.” replied Winter. “It’s an important part of what this camp is going to be about. Which of you wants to come up first?” Tilly’s hoof shot into the air, much to Misty’s relief. “Perfect! Why don’t you come climb up on here.” said Winter, gesturing to the thin pillow on top of the cabinet. Tilly climbed up onto the cabinet, with a little bit of boost from Winter.
“I don’t think you’ve been told what this camp is about, have you?” asked Winter. Misty and Tilly both shook their heads. “Well, this is a program designed by Dr. Kodiak that’s supposed to help young furs like yourselves worry less and have more energy to focus on the things that really matter to you. Dr. Kodiak has found that the thing that little furs are devoting much of their energy to and are often worried about is the potty. He thinks that as soon as furs are forced to start using the potty, they lose a level of freedom and comfort that exists before that point. If we were to eliminate that potty training, it would provide a new opportunity to have that comfort and freedom again.
“That’s where Camp Relax Out comes in. There’s one main rule of this camp: no potty. We’ve got super comfy diapers for you all that you will be using throughout camp. In addition to other camp activities, you’ll be participating in diaper training, or anti-potty training if you like. There will be fun prizes for reaching different landmarks throughout this process.”
“What about when the summer is over?” asked Tilly, feeling a little confused about the whole situation.
“Well, that depends. Dr. Kodiak has a few ideas for a next plan of action but it will depend on a variety of factors. For now though, you don’t need to worry about that. Are you ready to get started?” said Winter to Tilly. Tilly nodded a little hesitantly.
Winter gently turned her to be lying on her back and pulled off her tutu and undies. She grabbed a white diaper patterned with unicorns from a box in a cabinet. Tilly gasped slightly and wiggled her front hooves around in excitement of the patterned diaper. Winter smiled and slid the diaper under the small horse’s body, carefully taping it up in the front. “There you go!” said Winter, sliding Tilly’s tutu back on and helping her down from the changing table. “You’re up next Misty.”
Tilly sat back in the chair on the other side of the room, pulling up her tutu to look at the cute unicorn patterns on the diaper. Misty, with some help from Winter, climbed up onto the changing table and lay down on her back. Winter pulled off Misty’s shorts and undies, and Misty noticed that Winter had thrown the undies into one of the trash cans next to the changing table. Winter pulled out a light purple diaper with a pattern of magic wands and stars on it, and put it on Misty. Misty felt oddly comforted by the diaper. It was soft and had a comforting bulk to it. As she climbed off the changing table, she softly poked the front to diaper, enjoying the gentle crinkling noise.
“Okay you two, a few quick rules. As I said before, the main rule of this camp is not potty. That means that you have to go in your diapers. That’s probably going to be tricky right at the start, so when you need to go, tell me or Tart and we can help you out. We’ll also do diaper checks throughout the day but if you ever want a change before that, just let me or Tart know. Don’t try to remove or put on the diaper by yourself either. If it comes loose or isn’t fitting right, let us know and we can fix it.” said Winter. “With all of the sorted, how about we meet back up with the rest of the group and have a tour of the whole place?”
